The Distant South are a Melbourne-based Folk and Americana band playing their own tunes and telling their own stories of Love, Life, Heartbreak and everything that lies between.

Comprising singer/songwriter, Nick Howells, Brad Partridge on Double Bass, Renee Bufton on Violin and Vocals, and Jim Ten Hoev on Banjo, The Distant South bring together some incredible talent from bands including Buy Me A Pony, The Bay Street Preachers, and Drover and Peach. Inspired by Americana, Bluegrass and Folk music, influences include Sierra Ferrell, liz Stringer, Old Crow Medicine Show, Gillian Welch and Courtney Marie Andrews.

Acoustic by nature, melody, harmony and emotion are the artefacts that define the sound of The Distant South.

Set up

4-four piece band – Nick (guitar/vox), Brad (double bass), Renee (violin, harmonies), Jim (Banjo, drums).

Can play as a duo and Nick also performs as a solo act on occasion.
